Constitution Party to discuss endorsementThe Constitution Party of Coos County will meet at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave.
The discussion will center around endorsing Ron Paul and the recent Oregon State Constitution Party meeting held in Eugene.

Library video highlights Pacific cruisingThe video of the month for North Bend library’s Video Voyages will be “Cruise Hawaii & Tahiti,” at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the library, 1800 Sherman Ave.
Stops will include Hawaii, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu, Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti.

Coos Bay library piles up books for big saleThe two-day Friends of the Coos Bay Public Library “sweetheart of a used book sale” is just around the corner.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, with Friends members’ presale at 9 a.m., at the library, 525 W. Anderson Ave., in Coos Bay. The sale will continue from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3.
Most books are still 25 cents each, but there will be a special half-price sale on Sunday only. And from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, all books in the Myrtlewood Room will be $1 per bag.
Book sale proceeds fund special programs for children and adults, and buy books, equipment and other items to supplement the library budget.

Horseback riders to talk about trail plansThe South Coast Chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trails will hold its first meeting of 2008 on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
The group will gather at the meeting room in Gussie’s Restaurant and Lounge, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. There will be an optional dinner at 6 and the meeting will start at 7 p.m.
The guest speaker will be Mike Smith, who will discuss plans for a new trail system. Anyone interested in building and maintaining trails and trail riding activities can attend.

Renaissance group to meet in Coos BayThe Coos and Curry Chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Tymberhavene, will hold a meeting from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Education Service District building, 1350 Teakwood Ave., Coos Bay.
The society is a nonprofit group that re-enacts the Renaissance and Middle Ages time period pre-1601 A.D. Participants can come dressed-up or in regular clothes.
Membership is not required to participate, and families are welcome. The group dabbles in archery, costume, food, games, Western European Martial Arts, calligraphy, music, bellydancing, English country dancing and more.

Hiking group to think about new treksThe South Coast Striders hiking club will hold a potluck dinner on Thursday, Jan. 31, followed by a 15-minute presentation of photos from the 2007 hikes.
The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave. After looking back at 2007, participants will discuss the type of hikes to plan in 2008 and set the schedule for the year. Anyone interested in participating in the hikes is welcome.

Clambake jazz to offer sneak-peek concertGet ready for the Clambake Festival with a warm-up concert and dance at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Sawmill Events Center, at the Autumn House Restaurant, 3491 Broadway Ave., North Bend.
The Young Bucs Bluegrass Band will share the stage with the 12-piece Soulpie Band.
Tickets cost $10 and are available at Off the Record in North Bend. The South Coast Clambake Jazz Festival will be held March 7-9.

Charleston sets date for annual crab feedThe Charleston Merchant’s Annual Crab Feed will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Old Charleston School, on Seven Devils Road.
Dinners will include salad, bread, baked beans and a beverage all served on tables covered in newspaper. Plastic bibs will be provided, courtesy of the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission. Price will depend on the crab catch.
Hostesses will include the Wild Women of Charleston. Participants should bring crab cracking tools, although some will be provided. Last year, more than 1,000 dinners were served.
