North Bend’s girls bowling team put in a dominating performance over the weekend, winning a tournament at the Firs Bowl in Eugene.
The Bulldogs led throughout the qualifying, including topping all the other teams by almost 300 pins in the eight-game semifinal round.
In the championship round, North Bend beat defending state champion Siuslaw 310 to 299. Willamette beat Springfield 358-334 for third place.
The Bulldogs won despite having two freshmen — Danielle McNally and Josie Chambers — in the lineup with veterans Cassy Voss, Lydia Hartley and Nicki Todd.
The competition was much closer on the boys side, with only 50 pins separating the top four teams after the second round of qualifying.
Siuslaw beat Springfield 373-319 to take the title. North Bend topped Cottage Grove 350-340 in the third-place match.
North Bend’s anchor bowler, Craig Chambers, had a big day. In his 56 frames, he recorded 40 strikes and nine spares.
The area’s teams are gearing up for the district tournament, to be held Feb. 9 and 10 at North Bend Lanes. |
