Here is a look at ski and snowboard options throughout Oregon. Most places offer lessons and equipment rentals. Check individual resorts for hours, costs and specific ski offerings.

Willamette Pass is the closest destination for most South Coast residents. Beyond Oakridge, the ski area is at 5,120 base feet, climbing to 6,683 feet. There are 29 trails and seven lifts, along with night skiing. http://www.willamettepassresort.com

Mount Ashland: At 6,350 feet base elevation, this resort in the Siskiyou Mountains near Ashland is open daily. The resort averages 110-inch show base. There are 23 trails served by four chairlifts. It's open for night skiing Thursdays through Saturdays and holidays. http://www.mtashland.com

Spout Springs in Northeast Oregon in the Blue Mountains, with a base elevation of 4,850 feet. There are 11 trails, with 21 cross-country ski routes. Most trails are fairly easy. There are four lifts, with one being a rope tow. Only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. http://www.skispoutsprings.com

• While in the Blue Mountains, Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort offers 21 trails and three lifts. Most trails are considered difficult, at a base elevation of 7,100 and the summit at 8,000 feet. The ski area's biggest boast is the view. http://www.anthonylakes.com

Cooper Spur Ski Area near Hood River has a base elevation of 4,000 feet. This is a good family place. Most of the 10 trails are easy. There's one lift and a rope tow. http://www.cooperspur.com

Hoodoo Ski Area, with a base elevation of 4,668 feet, offers 30 trails from easy to difficult. There are five chairs and two rope tows, with night skiing. http://www.hoodoo.com

Mount Hood Meadows Ski Resort, at 4,523 feet, offers extensive downhill and cross-country skiing. There are 85 trails and 11 lifts, with day and night skiing. All skill levels will find challenges here. http://www.skihood.com

Mount Hood Ski Bowl near Portland offers day and night skiing and snowboarding. Base elevation is 3,500 feet with the summit at 5,000 feet. There are 65 trails and nine lifts. The majority of the runs are difficult, but there are some trails for beginners. http://www.skibowl.com

Timberline Lodge Ski Area boasts skiing at 6,000 feet. With 10 lifts and 32 trails, this is an all-day or night destination for beginners and longtime skiiers. It's also a destination training base for snowboard skiers from around the world. http://www.timberlinelodge.com

Summit Ski Area offers easy skiing and snowboarding routes for families near Government Camp at Mount Hood. Base elevation is 4,000 feet, with the summit at 4,300 feet. There are six trails, one chairlift and one rope tow. http://www.summitskiarea.com

Mount Bachelor offers skiing and snowboarding for beginners on up to experts. There are 71 trails and 15 lifts. Base elevation is at 6,300, climbing to a summit of 9,000 feet. Extensive alpine and cross-country options. http://www.mtbachelor.com

Warner Canyon Ski Area is in Lake County. Most of the 22 trails are rated easy to difficult. There's one lift at the area on U.S. Forest Service land with a base elevation of 5,720 feet.
