A California man was rescued Monday after the raft he was riding in capsized on Sixes River near Port Orford.
According to a Curry County Sheriff’s Office press release, at about 11:23 a.m., deputies received a 911 call reporting an overturned raft about 10 miles up the Sixes River. The caller, Gino Bernero, 51, of Elk Grove, Calif., was the operator of the raft that capsized with him and two other passengers. Bernero and one of the other passengers, Alex Jablonski, 29, of Los Angeles, had made it to shore safely, but the second passenger, Theodore Jablonski, 63, of San Rafael, Calif., was stranded on a rock in the middle of the river.
The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Swift Water Rescue Team, Sixes River Fire Department and Port Orford Ambulance responded and brought Theodore Jablonski to shore.
