Car chase arrest

A Coos Bay man was arrested Monday following a car chase through Empire.
According to an Oregon State Police press release, at about 10:26 p.m., a trooper attempted to stop a 1985 Chevrolet pickup truck for dysfunctional tail lights as it turned from Newmark Avenue onto Schoneman Street. The driver failed to yield and instead accelerated to more than 50 mph. Police chased the vehicle down Taylor, Main and Harris streets before it stopped at the intersection of Newmark and Schoneman. Troopers arrested the driver, Ronald Walter, 38, on charges of reckless driving, felony attempt to elude, possession of methamphetamine, felon in possession of restricted weapons, driving while suspended and a parole violation. He was taken to Coos County jail, where he is being held without bail.
