Drivers can expect delays and lane closures for several days this week while driving along U.S. Highway 101 between Coos Bay and North Bend.

According to an Oregon Department of Transportation press release, crews will be grinding and paving sections of the roadway from Newmark Avenue south to the Timber Inn Motel. Work will begin at 6 a.m. Tuesday and is expected to finish on Friday.

January is considered a low traffic time of year on the highway, the release said. However, drivers should expect some delays, said Tony Martinez, ODOT maintenance manager.

“We’re asking drivers to be patient with us for a couple days,” he said.  

Crews are working on the section of roadway in preparation for a major repaving project expected in the summer.

Meanwhile, work on the $30 million McCullough Bridge renovation project in North Bend continues.

The bridge will be reduced to one lane of traffic from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly this week, so construction crews can repair the bridge’s deck joints. Flaggers and pilot cars will help guide traffic across the bridge during those hours throughout the week. The Oregon Department of Transportation set up signs last week to inform drivers of possible delays and to remind them to drive safely.
