Diversity in education focus of Coos Bay talk

Southwestern Oregon Community College is hosting a special lecture for students and community members in coordination with Martin Luther King Day.

The free talk is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the Southwestern campus in Coos Bay.

In his talk “My Life as a Crow” guest speaker Bruce Thomas discusses the challenges and realities facing students of color entering higher education, a press release said. Thomas, a professor of counseling and comparative literature at Glendale Community College in Arizona, is a two-time Fulbright recipient who has taught as an exchange instructor in Germany and China. He has been listed among the Who’s Who among American College Teachers for the last three years.
