Egyptian Theatre shows classics on big screen

The Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay will feature  “In the Heat of the Night” at 7 tonight. The 1967 movie, rated PG-13, stars Sidney Poitier as Detective Virgil Tibbs. Even though Tibbs is an Northern African-American detective and at first accused of the murder, he helps a Southern town solve the case and in doing so helps bridge the racism gap.

The musical “The Firefly” (1937) will play at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The movie chronicles a forbidden love story between two spies during the war between Napoleon and Spain.

General movie admission costs $4, $3.50 for seniors and those 12 and under, and $3 for members.

The box office opens one hour before show times. For more information, those interested can call 269-8650 or go to the Web site at http://www.egyptian-theatre.com.
