The following are events planned on the South Coast in coming weeks.
Egyptian Theatre shows classics on big screenThe Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay will feature “In the Heat of the Night” at 7 tonight. The 1967 movie, rated PG-13, stars Sidney Poitier as Detective Virgil Tibbs. Even though Tibbs is an Northern African-American detective and at first accused of the murder, he helps a Southern town solve the case and in doing so helps bridge the racism gap.
The musical “The Firefly” (1937) will play at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The movie chronicles a forbidden love story between two spies during the war between Napoleon and Spain.
General movie admission costs $4, $3.50 for seniors and those 12 and under, and $3 for members.

Ron Paul campaign group to meet in CBThere will be an organizational meeting for Coos County residents for the Ron Paul for President campaign from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the ESD Building 1350 Teakwood Ave., Coos Bay. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Hunters Association meets in North BendThe Oregon Hunters Association will meet at a new location.
Starting this month, the group will gather at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Sawmill Event Center, at the Autumn House restaurant, 3491 Broadway Ave., in North Bend. The meeting will be preceded by a no-host dinner at 6 p.m.

Hollywood Dreams hosting pizza partyThe club Hollywood Dreams will be celebrating its fifth birthday on Saturday, Jan. 26, with free pizza and cake for anyone in the area with a developmental disability.

Lab Band fundraiser planned in BandonThe Lab Band Program Association will be holding a fundraiser on Feb. 2-3, at the Sprague Community Theater, 1202 11th St. SW in Bandon.
The performance on Saturday, Feb. 2, begins at 7 p.m. The performance on Sunday, Feb. 3, begins at 2 p.m.
There will be an oral auction between sets, with items ranging from gift baskets to certificates.
The Beginning/Junior, Senior and Evolution bands will perform both days, a press release said. Many local businesses and individuals have donated items and services to help the Lab Band raise funds for the expansion of their building, a tour bus, and other needed items.
Tickets are available in Bandon at Gibson Graphics and Bandon Video, in North Bend at Young’s Southbound Sound and Music, and in Coos Bay at Outdoor-In. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children and seniors.
