There were reports around Empire last week of a wayward brown pelican. It landed on rooftops and waddled up to park visitors.

The brown pelican even posed near Ed Lund Park on Friday for Larry Carpenter and Ken Sagar, who both took a minute out of their work schedules to capture the seemingly tame bird on their cameras.

"It's the first time I've come down here and seen it," said an amazed Carpenter.

Sagar shook his head and commented, "It's certainly not an everyday occurrence."
