The following are events and meetings scheduled Thursday on the South Coast.

The Bay Area Sunrise Rotary Club will meet at 7 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive, in Coos Bay. The meetings end at 7:50 a.m. to allow members to arrive to work by 8 a.m. The Bay Area Sunrise Rotary Club welcomes business owners, professionals and others in management positions, either working or retired.

Life Line Screening will be at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2250 16th Street, North Bend. Appointments will begin at 9 a.m. Screenings are fast, painless and low cost. They test for blocked carotid arteries, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and hardening of the arteries in the legs. Bone density screening is also offered to assess the risk of osteoporosis. A Complete Wellness Package with Heart Rhythm costs $149. All five screenings take 60 to 90 minutes to complete. The Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association meets at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month. Lunch is held following the meeting at a location to be announced. All retired or active duty chief petty officers are welcome to attend. For meeting information, those interested can call Master Chief Bill Sheretz at (541) 997-2486.

A women’s sexual assault support group will meet at 1 p.m. at Coddington Place, 1681 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. For more information, those interested can call Stephanie at 888-1048.

Pinochle players will gather at 1:30 p.m. at the Coos Bay Senior Citizen’s Center, on the corner of Fourth Street and Ingersoll Avenue.

A class on body awareness will be offered from 2 to 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 438 Elrod Ave., in Coos Bay. Easy stretching, yoga postures, qi gung and tai chi will be incorporated into a smooth, gentle program focusing on balance, breathing and posture.

Coastal Douglas Arts & Business Alliance members are looking for a new community project. The organization will hold a facilitated meeting to choose its next project from 5 to 7 p.m. at the cafeteria at Reedsport Junior/Senior High School.



The Charleston Merchants Association
will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the rec room at Charleston Marina RV Park, 63402 Kingfisher Road.

An Evening Diabetes Group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. every third Thursday at Bay Area Hospital, 1775 Thompson Rd., Coos Bay. For more information, those interested can call 266-7927.

The Saints ‘n’ Aints host a beginning round dance class from 6 to 7 p.m. and an advanced class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and line dancing from 8:30 to 9 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay. Round dance instruction will be by Donna Hiserote and line dancing by Cathy Houston. Dancers will learn basic waltz and two step.

Toastmasters' Club No. 249 will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive, in Coos Bay. Toastmasters is about communication and leadership skills, practicing parliamentary procedures and learning to make your voice count. For more information, those interested can call Tom at 404-1028.

Thursday Bingo at Coos Bay Eagles No. 538 will begin at 6:45 p.m. at the lodge, 568 S. Second St., in Coos Bay. For more information, those interested can call 267-6613.

The Coquille Valley Museum Board will meet at 7 p.m. at the museum, 153 N. Central Blvd., in Coquille..

The Southwestern Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the North Bend Housing Authority, 1700 Monroe Ave. A talk on rhododendron grafting will be presented by Pat Osborn from Thompson’s Nursery in Waldport. Envision a Healthy Planet, the latest 2008 DVD series, will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Coos Bay Public Library, 525 W. Anderson Ave., in the Cedar Room. The topic will be “What a Way to Go: Life at the End of Empire.” The DVD runs two hours and there will be a discussion afterward. For more information, those interested can call 888-8234.
