A Coos Bay man was arrested in North Bend Friday, following an investigation of a vehicle that was stolen on Thursday night.

According to a Reedsport Police Department press release, at approximately 10:15 p.m., on Thursday, Reedsport officers took a report of a stolen vehicle from the Tides Inn Bar & Grille, 346 N. Fourth St., in Reedsport. Someone had taken the keys to a 1999 Dodge pickup truck belonging to 64-year-old James Stackpole, from his jacket pocket, the release said.

On Friday, a local volunteer firefighter saw a vehicle in the North Bend area with a license plate that matched the missing vehicle and notified North Bend Police officers.

At 8:38 a.m., officers located the truck and arrested Michael I. Cowan, 32, of Coos Bay, on charges of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was transported to the Coos County jail, where he is being lodged on $57,500 bail.
