Michael Bolton to perform two shows at new casino in Florence
Two-time Grammy winner Michael Bolton will spend three days in Florence, performing two shows beginning next weekend at the Three Rivers Casino & Hotel, as part of a grand opening for the casino’s expanded new facility.
Bolton, 54, has sold more than 52 million records worldwide in his career, with his biggest successes in the late 1980s and early ’90s. Known primarily for his powerful voice and soft rock ballads, he had a dozen top-20 hits, including two that went to No. 1 — “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” and “When a Man Loves a Woman” — both of which resulted in Grammys.
Other hits include original songs such as “When I’m Back on My Feet Again,” “How Can We Be Lovers” and “Time, Love and Tenderness,” as well as covers including “Georgia On My Mind” and the Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody.”
Though his last top-10 hit was 1993’s “Said I Loved You … But I Lied,” Bolton has continued releasing new material, often placing on the adult contemporary chart, most recently in 2005. He also made a well-received opera album in 1998 and a Frank Sinatra tribute album in 2006.
As a songwriter, he has contributed material to Barbra Streisand, KISS, Kenny Rogers and Cher.
Before finding success with soulful power ballads, Bolton was the lead singer of a heavy metal band called Blackjack.
The concerts will be at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, and 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21. Tickets are $65 and $75.
To celebrate the opening of the new casino, which is four times its former size, Bolton will participate in a drawing for a new home that the casino is giving away. In drawings over the weekend, seven finalists will be chosen who will be able to meet Bolton before the drawing of the grand prize Sunday, Jan. 20. Other prizes include cash and credit at the casino’s slot machines.
