“Bandits” and “Guardians,” the two units housed at the Oregon Army National Guard in Coos Bay, the only one on the South Coast, will host an open house today.

The open house follows a Friday event, in which 2nd Lt. Ericka Neighbors assumed command of Detachment 1/Fox Company.

The open house, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a chance for the public to see what the guard does.

During the open house, the units will conduct training in and around the Armory, including classes, gear inspections and inventory and an indoor rifle range. There also will be weapons displays, videos and give-a-ways. The Family Support Team will provide refreshments.

They also will be working on the Pioneer Cemetery from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The Coos Bay Armory is organized as two distinct units within the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team:

* Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 186 Infantry, “Bandits,” consists of approximately 70 soldiers formed into two infantry platoons and the Company headquarters, led by Capt. Bobby Baca.

* Detachment 1/Fox Company (Infantry Forward Support Company), 141 Brigade Support Battalion, “Guardians,” consists of approximately 40 soldiers and includes truck drivers, cooks, mechanics and other support personnel.
