Evergreen Court
Show opens Wednesday
Evergreen Court in North Bend will be displaying the work of South Coast artist Jessica Elam starting Wednesday.
Elam was born and raised in Portland. From the time she was old enough to pick up a crayon, she loved to paint and draw, a press release said. Both her grandfather and great-grandmother were talented artists, so she followed in their footsteps of artistic expression, while creating a distinct style of brightly colored paintings. Her works include a range of styles from textured pointillism, to floral depictions, nature and landscapes. Elam implements a different genre of musical inspiration in each painting, and enjoys experimenting with different textures and light effects in her acrylic works, a press release said. The show at Evergreen Court, 451 O’Connell St., runs through March 16.
Boys & Girls Club
Show open through month
The Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon is hosting an annual Fine Arts Exhibit at the club, 3333 Walnut Ave., in Coos Bay, through January. The exhibit is the local competition for Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Fine Arts program. George Hess of the Mindpower Gallery and Jane Snoddy of Easy Lane Frames and were the judges.
The artwork selected from this exhibit will move on to the Regional competition at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach in Laguna Beach, Calif.
The National Fine Arts Exhibit program promotes young people’s creativity and encourages artistic skills and cultural achievement. The Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon offers painting, drawing, sculpting, art history and crafts to all of its members each day of the week.
The exhibit is open from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Landscape paintings
Professional artist William Allen Selden is exhibiting his paintings during January in the conference room at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave.
Selden’s richly detailed and colorful seascapes and Oregon scenes encompass realistic and natural scenes painted in oil on canvas, said a press release.
Coos Bay library
Photo exhibit this month
Photographs by local artist Carol L. Young are exhibited on Coos Bay Public Library walls throughout January.
Young focuses on watercolor painting and on creating art cards and photographs from her paintings. She also enjoys photography and drawing in various media.
Young has a master’s degree in botany (plant ecology). She especially enjoys photographing and drawing flowers, and “walking amongst the beautiful trees” of the South Coast.

The Bay Area Artists Association Regional Juried Exhibition features paintings, photography, sculpture and other three dimensional works. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
