South Coast readers often have  different preferences in reading material than those elsewhere. Here are the top-five sellers this week at Books By the Bay in North Bend, according to owner Trish Price:

“Sage-ing while Ageing” by Shirley MacLaine focuses this beloved celebrity’s wit and humor on aging gracefully.

“Careful Use of Compliments” by Alexander McCall Smith is the newest in Smith’s Isabel Dalhousie series.

“Rescuing Sprite: A Dog Lover’s Story of Joy and Anguish” by Mark R Levin is the story about a family and its bond with an animal rescued from a shelter.

“Angela and the Baby Jesus” by Frank McCourt is the holiday story of McCourt’s mother as a child. It comes in both an adult format and an illustrated children’s one.

“Dangerous Book for Dogs:  A Parody by Rex and Sparky” by Joe Garden.  A laugh-out-loud funny, illustrated guide for — and by — dogs, this book teaches canines how to do the very activities that human society says are wrong.
