Bandon group seeks young performers for variety show

Bandon’s New Artists Productions will hold sign-ups for the 2008 “I Wanna Be a Star!” variety show from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 12, in the music room at Ocean Crest Elementary School on Alleghany Street.

Youth ages 6 to 18 are encouraged to participate in the variety show, set for Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Sprague Community Theater. Suggested ideas for variety acts include lip sync performers, dance, comedy skits, instrumental and vocal presentations. There also will be several group acts and the grand finale organized by Dan and Anita Almich, founders of New Artists Productions.

For more information, those interested can call the Almichs at 347-2517.

LTOB brings music of Mark Twain to North Bend stage

Tickets are on sale now for “An Evening with Mark Twain,” at Little Theatre on the Bay in North Bend.

The play will be performed at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12. Kurt Sutton’s unique approach in depicting the Mark Twain character will include the often overlooked love that Twain had for music, a press release said. Twain played piano, guitar and banjo and routinely entertained friends and guests in sing-along performances in his home every evening.

A 20-year veteran of performing as Mark Twain, Sutton also plays harmonica, guitar, autoharp, dulcimer and banjo and has appeared in the movies “Go Tell It On The Mountain” with Paul Winfield and “Night Shadows” with Wings Hauser.

Seating will be reserved seating, and tickets cost $20. Tickets are available at the LTOB Box Office, 2100 Sherman Ave., and remaining tickets will be available at the door beginning at 7 p.m.
