Emergency crews and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel responded to a landslide on Dec. 5, that brought down boulders the size of houses on state Highway 38. The rocks closed the road. ODOT crews zipped to the scene, but it took several days to clear the debris. - World Photo by Jolene Guzman
Mother Nature unloaded on Oregon’s Coast in December. While the most devastating impact of the storm was to the north, the South Coast suffered its share of weather-related problems.
Especially in Bandon and points south, the storm, carrying hurricane-force winds, wreaked havoc, toppling trees and with them, power lines. Residents were without electricity for days; some for almost a week. But stores remained open, neighbor helped neighbor and, when the winds and seas calmed, the cleanup began.
And so did the stories — which likely will be magnified in the years to come, as longtime residents recall the “Big One of ‘07!”
