South Coast narcotics investigators scooped up 18 people on March 28 on methamphetamine charges in a drug sweep — nine months in the making — dubbed “Operation Bad Medicine.”

The daylong roundup involved about 20 law enforcement officers, beginning at 8 a.m., and lasting for eight hours. It stemmed from grand jury indictments handed down March 21 against 24 Bay Area residents.

South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team investigators said Bad Medicine focused on lower-level crystal meth dealers and yielded less than an ounce of crystal meth.

Only one search warrant was executed for a home at 1163 Crocker St. in Coos Bay, while teams of four to six investigators and police served arrest warrants at other locations in Coos Bay, Charleston and North Bend. All suspects were booked and released at the Coos County jail later that day.
