BOYS BASKETBALL

Bulldogs take third

North Bend overcame Skyview, Wash., 51-50 for third place in the Stayton Tournament, with post Elliot Adams scoring the winning basket in the final 20 seconds.

The Bulldogs entered the fourth quarter 12 points behind Skyview. However, with the help of the 6-foot-6-inch post, they made the big comeback.

Adams had 21 points for the night, with 15 straight North Bend points in the fourth quarter.

“The team did an awesome job getting Elliot the ball,” said North Bend coach John Olson.

Defensively, the team played well, holding Skyview to a mere two baskets in the fourth quarter.

“The whole time, we never lost our composure,” said Olson. “I am really proud of the team, they earned it tonight. This win kind of made up for the sour taste of (losing in the semifinals)last night.”

Dune Country Classic

Reedsport was crushed on its home turf Saturday in a 67-39 loss to Sheridan in the third-place game at the Dune Country Classic.

Sheridan’s Tre Hale-Edmerson and Nikko Rentsch each had 17 points for the Spartans.

Cody Savey was the high scorer for Reedsport with 15 points.

In the championship game, Toledo beat Yoncalla 61-39, as Levi Bolt, Kyle Parks, and Nevin Sjostrom scored 11 points each. Caleb McDaniel had nine points for Yoncalla.

Tigers fall

Bandon lost to visiting Jefferson 66-56 on Saturday after a late comeback was drowned out by fouls. Jefferson made the calls count, sinking 15 out of 20 free throws in the second half.

Top scorers for Jefferson were Max Londberg with 20 points and Jake Yoakum with 12.

“We needed to execute on our half-court offense but that just didn’t happen,” said Bandon coach Matt Angove.

Although the team struggled, Bandon’s Max DeVillers excelled, ending up with 27 points.

Illinois Valley edged host Coquille 65-60.

Illinois Valley came back in the second half by outscoring Coquille 38-28.

“Brooke Davison did an excellent job getting to the hoop,” said assistant coach Brian Richards. “This was her best game of the season.”

Megan Meador added 16, including two vital 3-pointers late in the game to help force overtime.

“Meador made some big shots for us,” said Richards.

Toledo beat host Reedsport 68-53 in the championship game of the Dune Country Classic.

Toledo’s Beth Stamm had a game-high 31 points, making 12 of 23 shots in the game. Megan White added 13 points.

With a league game against Cascade Christian on Wednesday, Coquille coach Jennifer Sproul left her starters in longer than usual and kept up the defensive pressure. Five of Coquille’s players had at least five steals in the win.

Tigers tip Lions
