Computer workshop offers basic skills training
Monday, December 31, 2007 | No comments posted.
A free basic computer workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, at the Coos Bay Public Library’s cedar room, 525 W. Anderson Ave.
This workshop is being made available by the Bay Areas Seniors Computer Club and sponsored by the library.
The club was able to purchase six laptop computers for class instruction, made possible by a $7,000 grant from the Coquille Indian Tribe. Volunteers are needed to help with the class. Efforts will be made to get as many people as possible using computers.
No registration is needed. No membership in the computer club is required and there is no age restriction.
The long-range plan is to hold sessions weekly, twice a month, or once a month, depending on the turnout.
Other classes are offered through the club and available to up to five students at a time on many topics. There is a small charge for those classes. All fees go to the club not the instructors.
BASCC is a nonprofit computer club for seniors.
The twice-monthly meetings provide speakers who talk about topics associated with computing. There also are help stations at each meeting to assist with individual computer questions. Meetings are held on the first and third Fridays of the month at 10 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road, Coos Bay. For more information, those interested can call Steve at 266-9714 or René at 269-7396; or go to the Web site at http://www.geocities.com/bayareasrcompclub.
