The following are community events scheduled Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15-16.
Saturday
• Bandon’s “I Wanna Be a Star!” variety show sign-ups will be from 10 a.m. to noon in the music room at Ocean Crest Elementary School, on Alleghany Street. Youth ages 6 to 18 are encouraged to participate in the show set for Feb. 23.
• South Coast storytellers and musicians will spin tales and whip up tunes in the Coos Bay Public Library’s annual festive holiday program. This free 45-minute program will include stories, songs, crafts and treats at 11 a.m.
• Sea Breeze Harmony chorus will be singing at 11:30 a.m. at the Pony Village Mall on Virginia Avenue in North Bend.
• The 33rd-annual “Sounds of Christmas” concert will be performed by Lee Littlefield on the Mighty Wurlitzer and Dr. Wilbur Jensen and the Christmas Brass Ensemble at noon at the historic Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay.
• No Lazy Kates will be spinning wool at the Headles and Treadles Studio in Pony Village Mall on Virginia Avenue in North Bend at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Visitors are welcome.
• A Christmas Tour of Homes in Reedsport will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets cost $5 and are available through at the Lower Umpqua Hospital gift or flower shops.
• The annual Christmas Carol Sing-Along at First United Methodist Church in Coos Bay will be at 3 p.m. at the church, at Central Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. Those attending should bring a food donation for the South Coast Food Share.
• The Living Nativity, produced by the Bandon Ministerial Association, will be presented starting at 6 p.m. at the Bandon Chamber of Commerce Information Center parking lot in Old Town Bandon. There will be live animals, actors, music and narration.
• The Saint ‘n’ Aints Square and Round Dance Club will host a Christmas dance at the United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay. Line dancing with Kathy Houston begins at 6:30, with round dancing with Donna Hiserote at 7 and square dancing with Sherm Welch at 7:30 p.m.
• Bay Area Church of the Nazarene will present the musical “Hark the Herald Angel” at 7 p.m. The drama tells the story of an angel named Hark, who is very inquisitive about the Heavenly Choir that will share in a great announcement — the birth of Jesus. The church is located at 1850 Clark St. in North Bend.
• A holiday Community Barn Dance will be from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Greenacres Grange Hall, 93393 Greenacres Lane. Live music will be provided by the “Conjugal Visitors” band. Admission is $5, $4 for students and seniors. Children under 6 get in free. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. This is an alcohol, tobacco and fragrance free event.
• “Bah Humbug!” a retelling of the classic Dickens story “A Christmas Carol” by the On Broadway Thespians, will be on stage at 8 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for children age 12 and under.
Sunday
• Bay Area Church of the Nazarene, 1850 Clark St., North Bend, will present the musical “Hark the Herald Angel” at 10:30 a.m.
• Unity of Bandon will go Christmas caroling. Soup and bread will be served around 12:30 p.m., followed by Christmas caroling at several care centers. Carolers can meet at Unity, on U.S. Highway 101, one mile south of 11th Street.
