FLORENCE (AP) — An Oregon State Police trooper had to shoot and kill a black bear that broke into a home in Florence on the Oregon coast.

The homeowner said the bear broke into his house and approached him inside his garage on Monday before trying to break into his house again on Tuesday.

The bear was in a tree when the trooper arrived, and then climbed down and charged at him before the trooper killed it with a shotgun.

State wildlife officials say the male bear was among the bears people have been feeding in the Florence area, increasing the risk of conflict because the animals lose their fear of humans and sometimes avoid their natural winter hibernation.

I sure wish people would stop trying to domesticate wild animals. The issue with pitbulls should be enough to make people think about this and they are supposidly domesticated.

WHY are people feeding these bears? Don't they know the bears will eventually become a victim of their "kindness" and end up being moved or dead? It isn't the bear's fault that a house got broken into.......it is the fault of those who were feeding it.

Even a small HINT of where in Florence would be nice! Anyone out there know an approximate location where this happened?
