Women trapped in roll-over accident
Wednesday, December 12, 2007 12:45 PM PST

Two Gardiner women refused medical treatment Monday after a roll-over car accident.

According to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office press release and log, at about 9:30 p.m., dispatchers received a call from a teenage girl who reported she was in a truck that was upside-down in a ditch near milepost 4.5 on Lower Smith River Road. Both she and the driver were trapped in the vehicle, she said, though the driver was trying to signal other drivers by honking the vehicle’s horn.

A deputy arrived at the location about 20 minutes later and helped free the women from the vehicle.  After an investigation, the deputy determined that the driver, Kera D. Avery, 32, had lost control of her 2001 Chevy pickup. The pickup left the roadway, landing in the ditch.

Both Avery and her passenger, Riann M. Dodge, 15, were wearing seat belts. They indicated they were not injured and refused medical attention, police said.
