NAMI workshop series to be offered in Bay Area

The National Alliance on Mental Illness is taking applications for a local Family-to-Family Education Program. The program offers free education and support for families who have relatives with mental illness. Classes are scheduled to start in January.

The course topics will include learning about feelings and facts; schizophrenia, major depression and mania; diagnosis and dealing with critical periods; subtypes of depression and bipolar disorder, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder; diagnosis, causes and stories; new research of the biology of the brain; problem solving workshop; medications review; empathy workshop; self-care and relative groups; rehabilitation services; advocacy; fighting stigma; and a review and certification ceremony.
