Groups present concerts, host fundraisers

Coos Bay

School concert

Christ Lutheran School will present its free, annual Christmas Concert on at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts, on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. Entitled “Come with Us,” the concert will share the miracle of God’s Christmas gift of the Savior for mankind, said a press release. The students will sing and sign familiar Christmas carols that emphasize the true meaning of Christmas. Scenes of the Christmas Scripture readings also will be presented. To close the concert, the audience will join the students in singing Christmas carols.

Christmas musical

Narrators will lead listeners through the story of Christmas when The Time Travelers will perform the Christmas musical “Once Upon a Miracle” at several venues throughout the area. At 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, the group will perform at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2175 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay. At 3 p.m., on Saturday, they will be at Evergreen Court Independent Living, 451 O’Connell, in North Bend. The free musical is directed by Bernadini Vincent.

Pipe organ concert

Lee Littlefield at the Mighty Wurlitzer and Dr. Wilbur Jensen and the Christmas Brass Ensemble will perform in the 33rd-annual “Sounds of Christmas” concert at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the historic Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay. Littlefield will play the Wurlitzer organ, one of the few that still exist. The Egyptian Theatre Preservation Association is working to restore the instrument. The Christmas Brass will perform traditional holiday music, novelty tunes and an audience sing-a-long.

North Bend

Kiwanis selling candy

The Kiwanis Club of North Bend is selling See's Candy from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Dec. 24. The group is set up between Noah's Ark Fish & Pets and Harbor Lights Animal Hospital. Noah's Ark is located at 1760 Virginia Ave., across from Pony Village Mall in North Bend. All money raised from the annual North Bend Kiwanis club fundraiser serves the community. Lions selling candy

The North Bend Lions Club is selling See's Candy from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the candy is gone, at its booth between the Union Hall and KFC on Newmark St., in North Bend. The cost is $14.50 for one pound and two pounds for $29.  All proceeds are returned to the community in the form of eye glasses, youth contests, humanitarian contributions, the Save Our Pool committee and more. Lakeside

Christmas Bazaar

The Lakeside Lions will host a Christmas Bazaar from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Lions Club is located at 890 Bowron Road. There will be coffee, cookies and fun.

Kids Christmas program

The Lakeside Lions Hall will host a Christmas program at the hall at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14. Musical Kidzone Children will perform and there will be free hot dogs and ice cream. Santa Claus will arrive at 7:30 p.m. and give toys to all the children in attendance. For more information, those interested can contact Madeline at 759-2374 or the Lions at 759-2516.

Bandon

Lights celebration

The 25th-annual Celebration of Lights in Bandon will be Friday and Saturday evenings in Old Town Bandon. The event features family attractions. Santa will appear at the Shopping Center and arrive at 11 a.m. Saturday via Prowler Charter Boat at the Bandon Crab Dock. He will help children decorate the Port of Bandon’s picnic shelter Christmas tree and be available for pictures with children. There will be merchant give-a-ways and music provided by the Bandon High School Swing Choir. Also, the Toys for Tots Christmas box is located at the Bandon Baking Co. in Old Town.

Living nativity

The Living Nativity, produced by the Bandon Ministerial Association, will be presented at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15, at the Bandon Chamber of Commerce Information Center parking lot in Old Town Bandon. There will be live animals, actors, music and narration from the Bible’s accounts of the Christmas story. The audience will be invited to participate in the singing at several points during the presentation.For more information, those interested can call Pastor Hutton at 347-2256.

Port Orford

Nativity display and high tea

St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Port Orford will hold an annual display of Christmas Nativity scenes from church members and friends with High Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday in the church parish hall. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. St. Christopher’s is located on Ninth Street behind the Downtown Fun Zone on Highway 101. St. Christopher’s celebrates Eucharist (Communion) services on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. For more information, those interested can call (541) 332-0998.

Reedsport

Bazaar and bake sale

A holiday bazaar and bake sale will be held at the Timber Ridge Retirement Center, 660 Ranch Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Santa arrives

Santa Claus will hand out presents and photos to children infant to 12 years old from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Lower Umpqua Senior Center, 460 Winchester Ave., in Reedsport. The event will include punch and cookies for all. The Christmas party is sponsored by Kool Coastal Cruisers Car Club and Wal-Mart. 'The Messiah'

The Southwestern Oregon Community College Community Choir will be performing G.F. Handel’s “The Messiah” in a free concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Reedsport High School Pacific Auditorium. The choir will be accompanied by an ensemble including viola, cello, oboe, flute, clarinet, harpsichord and violin players.

Holiday homes tour

A Christmas Tour of Homes will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. Proceeds will benefit the Lower Umpqua Hospital. Tickets cost $5 and are available at the LUH Gift Shop. For information, those interested can call (541) 271-9700.

Florence area

Lightstation celebration

The free, annual Christmas celebration at the Heceta Head Lightstation north of Florence will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sundays, Dec. 8-16. Volunteers have decorated the Queen Anne-style Keeper’s House with Victorian flourishes inside and out. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided nightly. Parking is available at the Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic View Point, just below the Keeper’s House and a shuttle bus will take visitors from the park to the Lightstation front door. Parking at the viewpoint is $3 per vehicle. For more information, those interested can call the lightstation at (541) 547-3696.
