Garren Hitner had 15 points and 24 rebounds to lead Myrtle Point’s boys basketball team to a 61-48 win over visiting Douglas on Tuesday.
Scott Clark added 14 points, and gave the Bobcats a big lift in the third quarter, when they pulled away from a three-point halftime lead.
“Scott Clark had five buckets driving, being aggressive offensively, and really got us going,” said Myrtle Point coach Bill Looney.
Hitner had 16 offensive rebounds and Cody Libbett added 15 boards for the Bobcats.
“Our big guys really rebounded the ball well,” Looney said.
“As far as a team effort, the kids came out well and competed and showed our most intense (game) so far,” Looney said.
Post player Jason Tingle had 32 points for the Trojans.
Cruisers fall
Canyonville Christian Academy’s Kang Kim scored at the buzzer to beat host Powers 42-41 on Tuesday.
Jake Stevens had 13 points to lead the Cruisers, but sat nearly all of the third quarter and half of the second in foul trouble, coach Matt Shorb said.
“That’s not why we lost the game,” he said. “We didn’t take care of the basketball enough. We missed a lot of (easy) shots.”
Thomas Wagner had 11 points and Kyle Blanton nine for the Cruisers. His team pleased Shorb, who has been looking for better scoring balance.
The Cruisers also lost a home game Saturday, to McKenzie, by a 46-27 margin. In that game, Stevens had 20 points, Wagner four and Blanton 3. The Eagles pulled away from the Cruisers by outscoring them 21-2 in the second quarter.
Powers hosts Reedsport tonight.

Siuslaw got its football players into the lineup for the first time this season, but couldn’t keep up with Elmira in a 54-31 loss at Florence.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cruisers win

“We’re improving every game,” said Powers coach Jody Cyr. “We switched some things up tonight that looked encouraging.
“We held our intensity throughout the game and got a big lift from Bilhe Marshall. She played with a lot of energy.”
One big area of improvement was free throws. The Cruisers were 12-for-18 from the foul line, including 9-for-11 by Bittner.
Sisters Kayla, Samantha and Kim Stalford combined to score 35 of the Pilots’ 41 points, with Kayla leading the way with 16.
