The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a  Brookings man after his family reported he hasn’t been seen or heard from since getting under way Nov. 23.

Craig Peterson is 33 years old, approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has dark brown hair and possibly a goatee or trimmed beard. Peterson’s vessel is a white 25-foot sailboat with the hull numbers OR179YW.  Peterson’s family reported that he planned to get under way near the Chetco River and sail to Alaska or go tuna fishing in an unnamed location. An urgent marine information broadcast has been issued, urging mariners to contact the Coast Guard if they have information that would assist in the search. A C-130 Hercules air crew was launched from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, Calif., to search for the vessel.
