Driver unable to save Bronco from the tide

A Ford Bronco was no match for the gooey mud on Coos Bay’s North Spit, as it sat mired in the muck Saturday on the east side of the North Spit across the bay from Empire. People in the Empire area noticed the vehicle stuck on the tideflats on Friday, with the high tide sending water up to the windows. There was evidence that someone had tried in vain to get it out of the mud before the tide came in. No other information was available at press time.
