PORTLAND - The Portland Trail Blazers’ opponent was the one feeling frustrated in the fourth quarter for a change.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 28 points and 12 rebounds, and the Blazers snapped a five-game losing streak with an 87-84 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday night.

Brandon Roy made the go-ahead basket and finished with 13 points and eight assists. Steve Blake scored all his 13 points in the second half for the Blazers, who are 5-1 at the Rose Garden.

“Hopefully we can do this the rest of the season,” Blake said. “We needed to make something happen tonight and we did it.”

Kevin Martin had 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Kings. Ron Artest added 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in his return from a one-game absence.

The Kings led 84-83 with 25 seconds left, but Roy drove for a layup with 19 seconds remaining to give Portland the lead. Francisco Garcia was called for charging on the other end.

Brad Miller tied up Jarrett Jack for a jump ball, but Travis Outlaw stole the tap, was fouled and made two free throws. Artest missed a 35-footer at the buzzer that could have tied it.

“We had our chances,” said Sacramento coach Reggie Theus, whose team is 0-7 on the road. “We had the ball taken from us down the stretch. We needed defensive stops and we couldn’t get them.”

Portland had allowed 30 points or more in the fourth quarters of each of its last five games, and had lost each one.

Sacramento led for most of the first three quarters, but Portland forced seven fourth-quarter turnovers and outscored the Kings 27-19.

“In the last few games, when it came down to the fourth quarter, we gave up a lot of points,” Aldridge said. “Tonight our defense was better and we kept scoring.”

Celtics 107, Lakers 94

BOSTON — Kevin Garnett had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the new Big Three in its first game against the rival Lakers, and Paul Pierce added 20 points and nine assists to help the Boston Celtics beat Los Angeles 107-94 on Friday night.

Kobe Bryant scored 28 points for Los Angeles, which got no help from having California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger sitting courtside. Instead, the Celtics fired up the crowd for the renewal of the rivalry by putting a muscle-bound clip of Schwarzenegger’s movie “Predator” on the scoreboard.

Warriors 123, Wizards 115

WASHINGTON — Baron Davis had 33 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds, Stephen Jackson scored 28 points, and Golden State ended Washington’s six-game winning streak.

Caron Butler, coming off a career-high 39-point effort Wednesday, did his best to keep Washington unbeaten without sidelined All-Star Gilbert Arenas, but it wasn’t quite enough. Butler finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, while Antawn Jamison had 30 points and 12 rebounds.

Davis and Butler are the first pair of NBA opponents with triple-doubles in the same game in more than 41⁄2 years. Orlando’s Tracy McGrady and New Jersey’s Jason Kidd did it on Feb. 23, 2003.

Heat 98, Rockets 91

MIAMI — Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade both played their best games of the season, and Miami finally won at home.

O’Neal had season highs of 26 points and 14 rebounds, Wade scored a season-high 31 points, and the Heat handed the Rockets their sixth straight loss.

Yao Ming and Luis Scola each scored 20 points and Tracy McGrady had 19 for Houston.

Magic 105, Bobcats 92

ORLANDO, Fla. — Dwight Howard had 34 points and 17 rebounds to help Orlando overcome a poor shooting night.

Reserve Walter Herrmann led the Bobcats with 16, while Jason Richardson had 15.

Spurs 101, Grizzlies 88

SAN ANTONIO — Tim Duncan scored 28 points and San Antonio beat Memphis for its fourth straight victory. Tony Parker added 21 points and eight assists for the Spurs. Juan Carlos Navarro led the Grizzlies with 16 points and Rudy Gay added 15.

Pistons 83, 76ers 78

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Tayshaun Prince scored 15 points and Detroit Pistons held on for its fourth home victory in four games.

Detroit never shook the Sixers until the final seconds. Philadelphia’s Andre Iguodala hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 79-78 with less than 15 seconds to play, but Chauncey Billups made two free throws and the Pistons forced Iguodala into a bad shot at the other end that missed the rim.

Pacers 111, Mavericks 107

INDIANAPOLIS — Danny Granger scored 25 points and Jamaal Tinsley added 24 to help Indiana hold off Dallas.

Devin Harris scored 24 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Josh Howard finished with 19 points for the Mavericks (9-3), who had their five-game win streak snapped.

Suns 113, Clippers 94

PHOENIX — Amare Stoudemire scored 13 of his season-high 29 points in the decisive third quarter, and Phoenix matched the best start to a season in franchise history by beating the Clippers.

Sam Cassell led Los Angeles with 26 points but stayed on the bench in the fourth quarter.

Nuggets 99, Timberwolves 93

DENVER — Carmelo Anthony scored 31 points and Kenyon Martin had a season-high 18 to lift Denver to its fifth straight home victory.

Antoine Walker came off the bench to score 24 points for the Timberwolves, 0-4 on the road.

Jazz 99, Hornets 71

SALT LAKE CITY — Carlos Boozer had 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead Utah to its sixth consecutive home victory.

Nets 98, SuperSonics 93

SEATTLE — Richard Jefferson kept up his stellar start to the season, scoring 30 points, and New Jersey held off Seattle’s fourth-quarter rally.

New Jersey needed all of Jefferson’s points and the 15 off the bench from Vince Carter to hold on after Seattle cut a 13-point, second-half deficit to one. After dropping six straight, the Nets have won their last two.

Delonte West led Seattle with 17 points, sparking the Sonics’ rally with 10 in the fourth quarter. Rookie Jeff Green added 14 points and 14 rebounds off the bench for Seattle, which has dropped three in a row and is 0-5 at home.
