State Highway 42 south was closed for about 40 minutes Saturday night after a tree fell across the roadway, completely blocking both lanes. According to an OSP press release, at about 8:04 p.m., a 2002 Nissan Altima was eastbound on Highway 42 south when it ran into a tree that had fallen across the roadway at milepost 13. The driver, Sarah Ybanez, no age or city of residence available, was taken to Coquille Valley Hospital for evaluation. A hospital spokeswoman said Ybanez was seen and then left about an hour later. The tree also knocked down power lines in the vicinity, disrupting electricity to 29 customers in the area. Oregon Department of Transportation personnel responded to provide traffic control while Pacific Power crews worked on the power lines. A Pacific Power spokeswoman said power was restored to customers by 1 a.m.
