The 15th annual See Jane Run, an all-woman event that benefits the Coos County Women’s Safety and Resource Center, drew 30 runners and walkers to John Topits Park in Coos Bay last Saturday.

The event, staged by the South Coast Running Club, included a 5-kilometer run/walk and a non-competitive 1-mile walk.

The overall winner of the 5-kilometer race was 11-year-old Natalie Hill of Coos Bay, who finished in 23 minutes and 39 seconds. She was followed by Megan Scheirman (23:53), Tracy Fawns (32:08) and 14 other women. Another 13 completed the 1-mile walk.

More than $500 in net proceeds was donated to the Women’s Safety and Resource Center.

Middle school district

The Riley Creek boys and Myrtle Point girls teams won the South Coast Junior High District Cross Country Meet last week.

Megan Miranda and Devrie Dewald finished first and second, respectively, to lead Myrtle Point’s girls to the team title. Miranda was timed in 11:53 on the 3,000-meter course at Tugman State Park, while Dewald was 10 seconds back. Teammates Morgan McNeely, Cherise Kirkpatrick and Christina Harmon also finished in the top 11.

Claire Ledig was third for Harbor Lights of Bandon, follwoed by Claire Herbage of  Riley Creek and Natalie Hill of Sunset.

Myrtle Point had 32 points, with Harbor Lights a distant second at 66.

Riley Creek’s boys put three runners in the top 10 to take the title.

Jesse Wells of Siuslaw was the individual winner in 10:53, just in front of Jonathan Everest of Blanco. Riley Creek’s Marcelino Ramos and Jeremy Busko were next, followed by Josh Carpenter of Myrtle Point.

Riley Creek finished with 55 points, to 67 for runner-up Sunset.

Swimmers start season

Seven members of the Gold Coast Swim Team started their winter season by competing at the Marie DeHoog Invitational in Springfield last weekend.

Garrett Swafford, Karl Stuntzner-Gibson, Brayden Heyer and assistant coach Denise Stuntzner-Gibson all posted top-10 finishes in multiple events, while Gracie Knutsen, Mallary Heyer and Carli Clarkson also participated.
