The Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon recently received a $2,500 grant from the NFL Youth Football Fund.
These funds will be used to help pay and train flag football officials, purchase safety supplies and provide awards for the season ending tournament champions, including a traveling trophy to be displayed at the winning school.
Since 2005, the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon has received more than $6,000 from the NFL Youth Football Fund to help support the Flag Football program.
In 1998, the NFL and NFL Players Association formed the NFL Youth Fund (YFF) — a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation that supports the game at the youth level and promotes positive youth development. Since then, hundreds of thousands of youngsters have been given the opportunity to learn the game of football, get physically fit, and stay involved in productive after-school activities with adult mentors.
The Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon runs a six-week flag football season for youth in the fifth and sixth grades. Including the annual flag football tournament, with the championship game played under the lights at Pete Susick Stadium. This year’s tournament is this weekend.
In addition, the organization has an indoor NFL Flag League for third- through sixth-graders, that is free to Youth Center members. With the support of partners like the NFL Youth Football Fund, the Boys & Girls Club will continue to provide opportunities to children, club officials said.
