Ballot measures up for debate at voter forum

The League of Women Voters of Coos County will present a Public Voter Forum from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Coos Bay.

The forum will feature discussions by proponents and opponents on Measures 49 and 50. Measure 49 would scale back Measure 37, the 2004 law to compensate landowners for loss in property value caused by land-use rules. Measure 50 would increase cigarette taxes to pay for health insurance for about 100,000 Oregon children currently without coverage.

Those speaking on Measure 49 include: Peggy Lynch, in support; and Andy Nasburg, against. Speaking Measure 50 are Arnie Roblan, in support; and J.L. Wilson, against.

The forum will be held at the Coos Bay City Council Chambers at city hall, 500 Central Ave.

The public is invited to listen, question, and judge for themselves.
