Oregon rodeo planning $10 million upgrade

PENDLETON (AP) — The Pendleton Round-Up Association has unveiled plans for a $10 million project to upgrade the rodeo grounds, including a roof to cover the entire western bleacher sections.
The Round-Up has hired Gail Sargent of Sargent Architects in Hermiston for an evaluation. She says the new roof would provide shade to cover most seats by 1:30 in the afternoon.
A proposed mezzanine level would be about 12 feet above ground and allow sufficient space for people to pass through and would create seating for the handicapped and wheelchairs.
The mezzanine would also create a second story under the bleachers, allowing more space for restrooms and livestock, and for more separation of livestock and cowboys.
Rodeo officials say they’re already working on the funding. |
