The community is invited to help local high school students clean the Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Those interested in helping with the cleanup are encouraged to bring their own tools, such as gloves, a lawn mover or a weed-whacker.
This “Make A Difference Day” project will focus not only on traditional workday tasks like lawn mowing, headstone transcription, and general cleanup, but also on building connections between students and community members, a press release said. Local quilters will be present, working on quilts for the “Home of the Brave” project, in which Civil-War style quilts are sewn for Gold Star families, those families who have lost a service person in Afghanistan or Iraq.
A select group of strong workers willing to follow directions are needed to help repair the headstone damage from this summer’s vandalism. Coordinators will provide supplies and directions to ensure proper repair.
In addition, everyone with personal recollections of the cemetery, information about those buried in the cemetery, or knowledge of the cemetery’s history can come share their stories.
For more information about the workday and future cemetery events or to
share information about the cemetery, those interested can e-mail
cbcemetery@att.net or contact Marshfield High School. A Web site is being developed at
