The North Bend High School Key Club will offer a walk for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in honor of NBHS alumnus Tom Holmes, Sunday.

A 1990 NBHS graduate and football player, Holmes went on to play at Oregon State University before developing the debilitating disease.

The 5-mile fundraising walk will be held at 2 p.m. at the North Bend High School track. Holmes’ cousin, Sam Aley, along with the Key Club and its advisor, Steve Greif, are organizing the event.

Walkers will circle the track twice then head out to Ferry Road Park before coming back to the track for two more laps.

Money raised from the effort will go toward research of ALS, which is also know as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

For more information on the event or how to donate, those interested can call Greif at 751-7101.

I was very sadned to read about Tom's condition. I wish him the best. I was on the track team with him in the late 80's and I played little league with him as well. I have some great memories from those days, competing alongside Tom on the field and the track. I am going to donate for a great cause and I hope other people do as well. Glen Gardiner NBHS '89
