Jets train over area
Wednesday, September 19, 2007 11:19 AM PDT

The noise from jets that some Bay Area residents heard in the sky the last few nights are part of Oregon Air National Guard training exercises.

According to National Guard public affairs officer Capt. Lucas Ritter, training crews typically take off from Kingsley Field near Grants Pass at 8:30 p.m. and head for Goose Airspace or Juniper Hart Airspace near Lakeview, in Eastern Oregon. However, because of inclement weather in the Lakeview area, crews have been diverted to Dolphin Airspace in the Douglas, Coos and Curry county areas.

Students use the training time to test night vision equipment and practice nighttime aircraft refueling, Ritter said. Crews typically take off from Kingsley at 8:30 p.m., arrive in the Dolphin Airspace between 9 and 9:30 p.m., and head back to Kingsley at about 10:30 p.m.

The training missions will continue until Thursday night, Ritter said.
