Coos Art Museum will host an Artwalk! event

Coos Art Museum’s new executive director Steven Broocks, will greet Artwalk! participants at the museum from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. He was hired Aug. 1 and brings an education in art history from Northern Illinois University and over 25 years of experience as a museum professional and artist. He previously held positions at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle; the Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Wash.; the Freeport Art Museum in Freeport, Ill.; and the Rocky Mount Arts Center in Rocky Mount, N.C.

The museum is about to undertake a major remodeling of its second-floor Mabel Hansen Gallery and is hosting its 14th-annual Maritime Art Exhibit and a  series of paintings by Dutch Mostert through Sept. 22. Upcoming exhibitions also include “By Land and Sea Art about Agriculture” and, in December, the Bay Area Artists Association regional juried exhibition.

The Coos Art Museum, Oregon’s third-oldest museum, opened its doors in 1950 in downtown Coos Bay. Located at 235 Anderson Ave., the museum offers a wide range of art activities, such as exhibitions, classes and lectures.
