North Bend evened its nonleague record with a 32-22 road win over Newport on Friday.

For the second straight game, the Bulldogs got 100-plus yard rushing efforts from senior tailbacks Shawn Mitchell and Lane Seals, who posted 166 and 103, respectively. Kale Forrester, also a senior, rushed for 86.

North Bend scored all its points on the ground, including three touchdowns from Mitchell.

“It was a great game for the most part,” North Bend coach Bill Masei said. “We still need to work on holding on to the ball though.”

The visiting Bulldogs committed two turnovers, coming on interceptions by Ethan Ottemiller. The senior quarterback completed 2 of 5 for 43 yards. He found tight end Bryce Weidman for 25 and Forrester for 18.

Newport’s Cole Skriver had 7 catches for 113 yards, and Mark Moore went 17-for-26 for 190 yards passing.

Vikings win in final seconds

Jacob Mitchell hit Drew Rainwater with a 16 yard pass with six seconds remaining in the game to give Siuslaw an 18-13 win over host Junction City on Friday night.

The Tigers had taken a 13-12 lead when Cody Garner made a one-handed grab on a pass from Tyler Hogan with 1:29 to go in the game.

Mitchell also connected with Rainwater on a 21-yard pass in the third quarter and scored on a 3-yard run in the opening quarter. Hogan and Garner hooked up on a 10-yard pass in the second quarter.

Mitchell completed 19 of 27 passes for 161 yards and two scores, with one interception for the defending state champion Vikings, who improved to 1-1 on the season.

Warriors whip Bruins

Del Norte overpowered host Brookings-Harbor for a 48-12 victory over the Bruins Friday.

Trevor Rook rushed for 180 yards and Chad Freeman completed 12 of 18 passes for 187 yards and two scores for the Warriors.

Del Norte led 27-0 before Nick Morris scampered in from 47 yards for the Bruins. After three more Del Norte scores, Mike Klein had the game’s final touchdown for the Bruins.

“They’ve been pointing at this game since the season ended for them last year,” said Brookings-Harbor coach Jim Keys.

The Bruins beat the Warriors in the preseason last year and Del Norte went on to lose in the sectional finals in California.

“Everything they did this summer was pointed at us,” Keys said.

Bobcats beat Lancers

Myrtle Point scored twice in the fourth quarter to rally for a 20-9 win over visiting South Umpqua on Friday.

Sophomore quarterback Ryan Hamilton connected with Garren Hitner and Tyler Love on a pair of short touchdown passes to give the Bobcats the win.

Hamilton completed 8 of 16 passes for 133 yards with no interceptions. Sean Andy and Scott Clark combined for nearly 130 rushing yards. Clark scored the game’s opening touchdown on a 4-yard run.

Bo Younker had a 12-yard run for South Umpqua in the second quarter and Clayton Lent put the Lancers in front with a 20-yard field goal in the third.

Hitner had 15 tackles, while Love had an interception and Casey Cagley recovered a fumble.

“I was happy with the second half,” Myrtle Point coach Brad Henshaw said. “We just looked more composed on offense and on defense we were just flying around a lot better. On offense, we got some great blocks from our receivers and our O-line took over in the third quarter.”

Panthers win on road

Gold Beach got two touchdown passes and a scoring run by Jeffrey Knox in a 28-14 win at North Valley on Friday.

Knox connected with Nathan Moore on a 78-yard pass midway through the first quarter and a 26-yard scoring strike in the third — the latter putting the Panthers in front 28-6.

Knox also scored on a 25-yard run in the second quarter that put Gold Beach up 20-0. Herbie Smith had a 9-yard scoring run in the opening quarter.

Knox completed 10 of 15 passes for 241 yards — 170 going to Moore. Travis Moore added 105 yards rushing.

Knox also was ejected from the game when officials determined he had been taunting, and will not be able to play when the Panthers travel to Calistoga, Calif., for their next game.

The Panthers were in control throughout. North Valley’s second score came with just over a minute to go in the game.

Boomers top Reedsport

Nick Kowtko had 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns to lead Toledo to a 20-8 win over host Reedsport.

The Braves scored first on a 2-yard run by Nic Morris, followed by a two-point conversion pass from Adam Chase to Cory Christoffersen.

Kowtko had scoring runs of 32 and 41 yards in the second and third quarters and Cameron Sjostrom returned a fumble 22 yards for the final score.

Reedsport got long interception returns by Christoffersen and Keelan McDuffy, but couldn’t capitalize on either. The Braves were limited to just over 100 yards of offense.

The Braves host Waldport on Friday.

Challengers win big

Cascade Christian overwhelmed host Sutherlin for a 50-12 victory over the Bulldogs Friday.

The Challengers rolled up 356 rushing yards and got touchdowns from six different players in the win.

Cascade Christian also forced six turnovers — two interceptions and four fumbles.

Caleb Trowbridge caught a 31-yard scoring strike from Brian Cook to briefly tie the score in the first quarter, but the Challengers took over from there.

Glide gets win

Glide’s Thomas O’Connor scored three touchdowns and the Wildcats beat host Glendale 34-20 Friday night.

O’Connor scored on two runs and a 36-yard pass from Kyle Fields, who also had a touchdown pass to Jeff Jackson. Brock Halter scored Glide’s other touchdown on an interception return.

Cruisers forfeit

Powers was forced to forfeit Friday’s game at McKenzie because of a lack of healthy players.

Powers coach Guy Shorb expects the team to have enough players for the Skyline League opener at Butte Falls on Friday.
