Annual Dahlia Show is this weekend

The Southern Oregon Dahlia Society hosts its annual dahlia show at the Pony Village Mall, 1611 Virginia Ave., this weekend. The show is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

North Bend club to gather Sept. 12

The North Bend Garden Club will meet at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the North Bend Housing Authority, 1700 Monroe Ave., North Bend. 

The meeting will start with a potluck lunch followed by “Celebrating the Past and Welcoming the Future.”

Community gardeners invite all to fundraiser

The volunteers who work in the Lady Bug Landing community Garden plan to share the harvest on Wednesday, Sept. 19. The nonprofit South Coast Community Garden Association is sponsoring the Second-annual Harvest Fundraiser. Chef Jardin of Black Market Gourmet restaurant will prepare a special lunch using the “best of the garden.”

The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the garden, which is at the corner of Eighth Street and Anderson Avenue. The cost is $5 for lunch and $1 for dessert. Donations also are welcomed.

Volunteers to build Lakeside garden

The Lakeside Parks Advisory/ Community Garden Committee is planning a groundbreaking ceremony for a community garden in Lakeside on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The event will be held at 9 a.m. behind Lakeside City Hall on North Lake Road. Anyone interested in helping with the construction or start-up of the garden is invited to join the committee.

Master gardeners offer advice twice weekly

Got bugs? Too many garden challenges?

The Coos County Master Gardeners are offering their expertise to help.

The Master Gardeners hold an information plant clinic to offer answers to questions and solutions for gardening problems. Volunteers staff the clinic from 9 a.m. to noon, Mondays and Thursdays, at the Oregon State University Extension Service building, 631 Alder St., in Myrtle Point.

For people who can’t get there, questions also can be  phoned in by calling 572-5263.

Other opportunities to seek MG advice

Master Gardeners are on duty at the Lady Bug Landing community garden at the corner of Eighth and Anderson streets in downtown Coos Bay every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon through September, weather permitting.

Volunteers will be available to answer general questions and talk about the demonstration beds at the community garden.

The volunteers also are available on Wednesdays in downtown Coos Bay.

The Master Gardeners are scheduled to set up their plant clinic booth at the Coos Bay Farmer’s Market every Wednesday through the end of the month. The booth will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each week.
