Schools throughout the region have been registering students and others have announced registration schedules for next week.

In Coos Bay, at Marshfield High School, students will register on the following schedule:

- Freshmen, Thursday, Aug. 30, in the main gym. Students will be organized by first letter of last name. Freshmen orientation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4;

- sophomores, juniors and seniors will register on Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the main gym. Students will be organized by first letter of last name.

At registration, ID cards and school pictures will be taken, for returning students a $5 enrollment fee will be due and new students must pay a $50 book deposit. P.E. clothes also will be available for purchase at a cost of $18. School registration packets were mailed out on approximately Aug. 17 to returning students and those transferring from Sunset Middle School. Registration for Bandon students at Ocean Crest Elementary School, Harbor Lights Middle School and Bandon High School will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Thursday, Aug. 30, at each school.

All students, in grades 5 to 12, must register.

n Ocean Crest Elementary students who were enrolled last year, will have new registration packets sent home on the first day of school.

Birth certificates and immunization records will be required to register kindergarten students.

Students playing a fall sport must have all paper work completed and submitted, and have a current physical on file at the high school before the first practice. Forms are available at the high school office.

In Gold Beach, the back-to-school night for kindergarten at Riley Creek School will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Riley Creek Library. The meeting will outline the school year and answer important questions concerning routines, requirements and requests. The first day of school for kindergarten students will be on Friday, Sept.7.

At Gold Beach High School, new student day will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Colvin Court and all new students are required to attend. Students will receive schedules, attend a short program and get a tour of the building.

Fees for registration may be paid at the front office and will include a $10 book rental fee, a $12 student body fee, a $3.50 parking permit fee, an $18 September breakfast fee, a $31.50 advanced lunch fee and a $50 fee for sports.

At Reedsport Junior/Senior High School, students in grades 7-12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the school cafeteria.

Students who are new to the district and have not registered can make an appointment with the counseling staff to enroll. Pictures will be taken at registration time for the yearbook and school ID cards. Picture packets also may be purchased at this time. There will be a $12 student body fee due at registration.

Students in grades 9 to 12 and participating in the interscholastic athletic program must pay a $80 participation fee per sport. Students in grades 7 to 8 and participating in the interscholastic athletic program must pay a $40 participation fee per sport.

At Highland Elementary School, registration is now open for all new students from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Newly enrolling students must provide a copy of birth certificates, immunization records and Social Security cards.

The first day of school will be on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and will begin with a welcome celebration and open house from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. for grades one to six. Regular school hours will resume on Wednesday. Highland's lunch program is automated and lunches must be paid for in advance by the week or the month. Students will receive handbooks and other important materials on the first day. Buses will begin running on Tuesday, Sept. 4, for all students except Kindergarten B.

An open house for Kindergarten A students will be held from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 4. The open house for Kindergarten B students will be held from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Parents are encouraged to attend, visit the classroom and meet teachers and staff.

Hot lunch and breakfast will be available for students in kindergarten through the sixth grade and will be served beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Breakfast is free for all students. Free-reduced lunch applications will be sent home with students on the first day of school and assistance will be available for those who qualify.

Class lists will be posted at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31.
