North Bay fire quelled

Tuesday, August 21, 2007 |
Fire crews didn't have far to travel Monday to extinguish a fire that started about 25 yards from the North Bay Fire Station.
According to a North Bay Rural Fire Protection District press release, at approximately 5:30 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to a structure fire on East Bay Road at the former Glasgow Daycare Center, which has been vacant since last January.
Upon arrival, 12 firefighters found the rear of the building engulfed in flames. Two people, who had been caught inside, escaped through a window without injury. Crews brought the blaze under control in about 15 minutes.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the North Bay Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office. A spokesman said the department is assessing damage, but fire, smoke and heat damage is evident throughout.
