The Three Rivers Sandblasters followed their regular-season title in American Legion Zone 3 by winning the district tournament on Sunday in Albany.
The Sandblasters topped Salem Post 9 on Friday and Sunday to win the district title, the victories sandwiched around a loss to Post 9 on Saturday.
Three Rivers now faces Klamath Falls of Zone 4 in a best-two-out-of-three series for a spot in next week's state tournament at Roseburg. The first game of the series will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Siuslaw High School in Florence.
Post 9 grabbed a 5-0 lead in Sunday's game, but Three Rivers rallied, eventually taking the lead for good with a two-run single by Shane Rose in the eighth inning.
In Friday's game, Travis Anderson went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Eddie Crowe was 2-for-5 with three runs. Cole Skriver also had two hits and Drew Rainwater drove in two runs. Travis Iverson and Chase Meister combined to allow five hits in the win.
Post 9 won Saturday 12-1 in a game shortened to seven innings by the mercy rule.
But Three Rivers responded Sunday.
“It's a trait of ours that we usually do those type of things and believe we can do those type of things - Displaying toughness,” Franklin said. “We really didn't play great by any stretch of the imagination, but we still found a way to get something going, so that's encouraging.”
Crowe finished 2-for-4 with two runs, Tyler Mais was 3-for-4. Drew Rainwater hit a two-run home run earlier in the game.
David Deutschman came on in the eighth in relief of starter Chase Meister and Scott Buche pitched a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up the save.
Klamath Falls, finished third in Zone 4 with a 9-7 record.
After Thursday's game in Florence, the teams will meet in Klamath Falls at 7 p.m. on Friday. They play again in Florence at 3 p.m. on Saturday, if necessary.
Post 9 faces Medford and Withnell Dodge meets Zone 4 champion Roseburg in the other two matchups between Zone 3 and Zone 4. The winners of each series advance to next week's state tournament in Roseburg.
Franklin said the important thing wasn't Sunday's win, but a desire to keep winning and reach the state tournament.
“The main thing is we want to continue playing as well as possible and improve and not be flat, and I think we did that,” he said.
