Oregon State Police are investigating the discovery of a possible pipe bomb near Reedsport.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 9:12 a.m., a PVC pipe wrapped in black tape was found in a Dodge at the Reedsport transfer site, 5500 Scholfield Road.
According to a Sheriff's Office press release, the piece of plastic wrapped in electrical tape with a fuse was burned up and smelled like cordite, possibly gun powder.
According to a Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, the pipe didn't appear to be hazardous and might have been used to try to get the lock off the gate to get into a nearby timber area.
The device was turned over to OSP, which is working on a similar case in Medford. |
