Tsunami test sirens to blare Saturday
Thursday, July 26, 2007 12:26 PM PDT
Sirens will blare this weekend.
But don't worry.
It's only a test.
According to a Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board press release, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, the Water Board and cities of Coos Bay and North Bend are scheduled to conduct a coordinated test of the Bay Area's tsunami alarms.
The test will give the public an opportunity to hear the sirens - and note their differences. The sirens should be heard within both cities and the Empire area of Coos Bay.
The sirens are located at the Water-Board Service Center and North Bend High School. The first test will consist of a one-minute steady siren blast representing a tsunami warning.
A second test will follow consisting of a one-minute on/off siren blast in which the alarm will be heard for 15 seconds, followed by silence for 10 seconds. The latter test represents the warning heard in case of a dam failure. |
