Operation Backpack

Tuesday, July 24, 2007 |
The Coos Bay School District is once again asking for community assistance with Operation Backpack/Shoebox.
The program was established several years ago to provide backpacks, school supplies and hygiene products for school children.
Individuals, families and organizations in the community are asked to donate backpacks and school supplies. Also, many students need hygiene products, like toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, bar soap, shampoo, cream rinse, nail clippers, brushes and combs. Other needs include sweatpants and underwear for younger students who may have accidents during school hours.
Donated backpacks and school supplies will be distributed to the schools where they are most needed. School nurses distribute the hygiene products throughout the school year as needs arise.
Monetary donations also are accepted. Checks should be made payable to Coos Bay School District, with Operation Backpack written on the memo line. Donations are tax deductible.
Donated items can be delivered between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to the district office at 1255 Hemlock Ave., in Coos Bay. For more information about the program, those interested can call the district office at 267-3104.
