Two men were pulled out of the water Thursday by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter about 100 yards from the Coos Bay city docks.
According to a press release from Coos Bay Police, at about 8:23 p.m., a 911 call to a police dispatcher reported two men were in the bay and appeared to be in distress. Once officers arrived, one of the two men, Craig Pickett, 46, of Coos Bay, swam back toward the shore. Pickett told officers he'd been trying to rescue the other man in the water, Scott Clore, 48, of Coos Bay.
Officers called the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in North Bend and requested assistance. A Coast Guard HH-65 helicopter flew out over the bay and plucked the two men out of the water.
Both were taken to Bay Area Hospital, where they were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Officers later arrested Pickett on an outstanding warrant through Oregon State Police, on charges of possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, interfering with an officer, recklessly endangering another person and driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was taken to Coos County jail, where he is being held on a $25,000 bail. |
