The Oregon Coast Music Festival began last week and will continue through Saturday.

€ Friday: A Loose Acoustic Trio workshop will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by a concert at 7:30 p.m., at the Egyptian Theatre, in downtown Coos Bay.

Ken Cooper plays a mandolin made out of a metal bedpan, or a bedpandolin, Richie Lawrence interrupted his own wedding ceremony to serenade his bride with an original song called “Marry Me,” which she did; and Steve O'Neill plays a mountain dulcimer and trumpet. Put them together on a stage and they make music that defies description.

n Friday - Saturday: A Golden Bough concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Sprague Theatre, in Bandon; followed by a picnic and workshop at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; and a concert at noon, at Shore Acres State Park, near Charleston. The group also will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Pacific Auditorium, in Reedsport.

€ Sunday: A Festival Chamber Players reception will be held on Sunday at the Charleston Boathouse, in Charleston. An oboe, bassoon and piano trio will perform selections of classical music, including a Poulenc piece written especially for the three instruments, as well as works by Saint-Saëns, Britten and others.

€ Tuesday:Orchestra Concert I, with soloist Andres Diaz, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Marshfield Auditorium, on the corner of 10th Street & Ingersoll Avenue, in Coos Bay.

The Boston Globe called his playing “bold and imaginative,” while The New York Times praised his “strongly personal interpretive vision.” During the Orchestra Concert, Diaz will perform a work by Camille Saint-Saëns that is considered by many to be the greatest of all cello concertos. The event is sure to be a musical treat!

€ Wednesday:Jazz at Jardin's by the Pete Lenihan Trio, with special guest Wilbur Jensen, will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, at the Black Market Gourmet, in Coos Bay.

€ Thursday, July 26: POPS concert “Pirattitude!” will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, at the Marshfield Auditorium, in Coos Bay.

Step aside, Capt. Jack Sparrow - Conductor Jason Klein will stride to the bow of his ship, or a podium, and set sail on a musical adventure. His crew for the evening is the Festival Orchestra and it promises to be a wild ride. This will be Klein's 17th season with the Oregon Coast Music Festival and over the years he's dressed up as everything from an elephant to a sorcerer.

€ Friday, July 27:A Festival Chamber Players concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 27, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, in Coos Bay.

€ Saturday, July 28: Orchestra Concert II will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, at Marshfield Auditorium. A chamber sextet, including the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, horn and piano will feature Poulenc's Sextour, following selections by Arnold, Mozart and Barber.
