North Coos improved to 8-4 in league play Saturday with a two-game sweep over States Industry of North Eugene at Clyde Allen Ball Park.
The host Waterfront surrendered just one run in the afternoon while tallying 16.
North Coos pounced on States Industry early in game one before pulling away to a 7-1 victory. The Waterfront's ace Bryce Weidman delivered another complete game. He struck out seven and allowed three hits on the way to earning the win.
Gatlon Giorgis gave North Coos a 2-0 lead in the first with a sacrifice fly, scoring Kale Forrester. Weidman doubled home lead-off man Tyler Lancaster two at-bats earlier. Lancaster scored two runs and drove in another in game one.
North Coos struck again in the bottom half of the fourth with Alex Clark's run-scoring double that brought Adam Opoien home. Opoien had two runs in the game.
Clark, who went 1-for-3 with a walk and a pair of RBIs, crossed home later in the inning, making it 5-1.
Forrester capped a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI-triple in the sixth, scoring Lancaster again. Forrester came home on a groundout to first during the next at-bat.
The Waterfront's Neal Vaught matched Weidman in the second game with a complete-game shutout, helping North Coos win 9-0.
Vaught fanned six batters and yielded five hits on 92 pitches. He got a huge lift in the third when North Coos exploded for seven runs. Forrester provided three of those with a bases-loaded triple, scoring Opoien, Lancaster and Tyler Graves.
Skyler Walton and Weidman both went 3-for-4 and combined for four RBIs. Three of those came on a base-clearing double by Walton, also in the third. That brought home Clark, Weidman and Giorgis. Walton double again in the fifth.
Weidman gave North Coos a 1-0 lead in the first with a single to left that scored Lancaster, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Clark batted 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs. He scored on a single by Giorgis in the sixth, putting North Coos ahead 9-0.
The Three Rivers Sandblasters beat Richey's Market for the first time this summer in thrilling fashion Sunday in Corvallis.
The Sandblasters pounded out 26 hits and scored in both the 10th and 11th innings for a 13-12 win in an American Legion Zone 3 game.
The Sandblasters now are 7-5 in league play after losing an extra-inning game to Salem Post 9 by a 6-5 score Monday in Salem. Post 9 scored twice in the 10th to rally for the win.
Three Rivers won the season series from Post 9 two games to one, but had lost the first two games against Corvallis.
The Sandblasters finally beat Richey's Market on Sunday, rallying from an early 8-1 deficit by scoring six runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
The teams went to extra innings tied at 11. Scott Buche led off the 10th with a home run and the Sandblasters won it in with another run in the 11th.
Buche was one of five Three Rivers players with at least three hits in the game, going 4-for-6.
David Deutschman led the way with five hits in seven trips to the plate. Eddie Crow as 3-for-6 with three doubles and four RBIs and Travis Anderson was 3-for-5 with two doubles. Justin Bond was 3-for-6 with two doubles.
Beau Biron and Drew Rainwater each had two hits in the win.
Three Rivers enjoyed the spoils of a strong finish Saturday, beating visiting Grants Pass 7-6 with the help of a walk-off base hit from Buche.
Buche's game-winner capped an impressive afternoon for the Myrtle Point graduate, who went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. He also picked up the win in relief, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
That came after Grants Pass rallied from a 6-2 deficit to tie the game in the eighth. Three Rivers jumped ahead early with two runs in the first and four in the seventh while scattering nine hits.
Three Rivers' starter Jason Reed yielded just two runs in five-plus innings but couldn't factor into the decision after Grants Pass knotted it at 2-2 in the sixth.
Anderson had three hits in five plate appearances, and Crowe finished 2-for-5.
Three Rivers has three league games remaining, starting today against Springfield at 5 p.m. in Florence. The Sandblasters host Albany on Thursday and wrap up their league schedule on the road Sunday against Winthell Dodge of Salem.
