Local clubs, libraries offer computer help

€ The Bay Area Seniors' Computer Club meets at 9:30 a.m. on the first and third Friday of the month at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road, in Coos Bay. The club offers free computer classes to seniors on a variety of computer topics and are open to suggestions for new subjects. The club will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 20, to discuss identity theft with Robert Vanderkamp of Encore Computers. € The Coquille Valley Seniors' Computer Club meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of the month in the Coquille High School library, 499 W. Central Ave., in Coquille. The club will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 23 to discuss general topics. For more information on the Coquille Valley club, those interested can call Bob Kimball at 396-4971.
Both groups welcome seniors or those older than 50 to attend the meetings and learn about technology or share their information with others. The clubs provide two discussions a month on basic computer topics, with special guests and a problem-solving open forum. Several members of the clubs will provide one-on-one tutoring.
€ Basic computer assistance also is available at the Coos Bay and North Bend public libraries. Both libraries offer free classes in basic keyboarding, searching the Internet and using a mouse.
Expert or amateur technical support service is not available at any of these local resources and any serious computer issues will need to be forwarded to a professional service.
